![]() My "philosophical" point is that I believe artistic creativity is at the core of our being irregardless of whether we're able to express it.īefore you jump to conclusions, please hear me out. I still practice technique all the time and probably will until I drop. I try hard now just to bang out tunes and express something on the guitar but I no longer have the urge to be art and I am much happier for it. Not necessarily stupid for others, but for me. My friends from that era all had a great and wild time playing whatever loud and amusing stuff they were into, but I was all "oh I wants to play the art" and it was just stupid for me. Ended up a decent guitar player but the yearning for fusion really kept me from JUST PLAYING GUITAR AND HAVING FUN. I wanted to be a super duper deep guitar guy with massive technique, but I did not have the resources to do so. My aspiration was to play it or even a pale imitation of it but I did not really have an understanding or plan for how to get from here to there. Went to all the fusion stuff that came to town, even Jean Luc Ponty. I fell in love with fusion and that's mainly what I listened to, along with Eric Johnson. When I was young, like college age, I played in garage bands and worked in guitar shops. While we are on the subject, I will reiterate my feelings about fusion and refrain from making jokes because I think people get confused trying to figure out what I am saying.
